Tactical Coffee Review (2026): An Honest Take From a Rival, and How It Compares With Contact Coffee

Tactical Coffee is a veteran owned UK coffee brand launched in January 2018 by a British Army veteran. It sells around fourteen military themed blends, mostly as 250g bags of ground coffee from 6.49 pounds, its coffee is roasted by a partner roaster rather than in house, and it donates 1 pound from every sale to Veterans in Action. It is a genuine forces business and a fair comparison for anyone shopping for military coffee in the UK. Where it trails Contact Coffee is measured strength, range and reach: Contact's Red On is lab tested at 1,293mg of caffeine per 12 fl oz brewed, the Contact range runs from brew bags and Nespresso compatible pods to caffeine pouches and a subscription, the Coffee Resupply ammo tin was the #1 selling coffee on TikTok Shop UK in July 2026, and more than 2,000 customers have reviewed the coffee.

Why a Rival Is Reviewing Tactical Coffee

We are Contact Coffee. We sell military coffee to the same customer Tactical Coffee sells to, so you should read everything below as what it is: an honest take from a rival. Every fact about Tactical Coffee in this review comes from its own website or from a published interview with its founder, and each source is linked at the end. Where we could not verify something, we say so rather than guess. We would rather be judged on the accuracy of what follows than pretend to be neutral, and we think a reader who is choosing between two forces coffee brands can handle a straight comparison.

We also want to be clear about one thing before the detail. Tactical Coffee is a real veteran owned business run by people who served, and that puts it in a different category from the growing pile of brands that bolt a stencil font and a tactical name onto ordinary coffee. The question this review answers is not whether it is genuine. It is whether it is the best military coffee you can buy in the UK, and on the evidence, it is not.

What Tactical Coffee Actually Is

Tactical Coffee, which trades as The Tactical Coffee Company at tacticalcoffee.co.uk, is a UK military themed coffee brand. According to a feature in Pathfinder International, the UK military resettlement magazine, published in August 2020, it was launched in January 2018 by an Army veteran who took a coffee course in 2015 and built a small team that includes other veterans. The brand's About page describes a founder who has "had many a cup of guard room coffee and drank too much compo coffee on operations", a line most people who have served will recognise straight away.

The positioning is squarely at the uniformed community. The homepage tagline reads "Coffee built for early starts, long shifts and people who don't quit. Veteran owned. UK roasted.", and the company says it proudly supports military, veteran and blue light communities. It has signed the Armed Forces Covenant and holds the Bronze award in the Employer Recognition Scheme, its FAQ page says 1 pound from every sale is donated to the charity Veterans in Action and that it gives coffee to vulnerable veterans, and it is a Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday winner. Those are real commitments, and a comparison that skated past them would not be an honest one.

One detail matters more than it first appears for a coffee review: Tactical Coffee does not roast its own coffee. Its About page explains that the roasting is done by a partner roaster, which it describes as veteran owned, roasting since 1958 using traditional methods, and employing veterans. That is a perfectly respectable way to run a coffee brand, and plenty of good names work the same way, but it makes Tactical Coffee a coffee brand rather than a coffee roaster, which is worth knowing if provenance is part of why you buy. The About page also states that all of its coffees are traceable and Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade certified. That is the company's own statement; we have not inspected certification records and we are not in a position to confirm or dispute it.

The Tactical Coffee Range and Prices

At the time of writing, the Tactical Coffee coffee collection lists the range below. Nearly everything is sold as a 250g bag of ground coffee at a single price, with a handful of blends also available as 1kg bags of whole beans. The blend names are the brand's strongest piece of marketing: Alpha, Bravo and Charlie for the core blends, Ugly Five Zero, Tactical Advantage and 1441 for the specials, Thin Blue Line, Thin Green Line and Thin Red Line for the emergency services, and Caffeinated Violence for the high caffeine option.

Beyond the coffee there is an HC500 hot chocolate, a Colombian instant coffee, a tea range sold as Tea Rogues, and a Resupply Box of six 250g bags. Postage is charged at cost rather than bundled into the price, orders go out Monday to Friday, and the company lists overseas postings among the places it ships to, which is a thoughtful touch for a forces customer. There is no ready to drink can, no coffee bag, no pod and no caffeine pouch in the range, and we could not find a subscription anywhere on the site.

The blend that will interest most readers of a military coffee review is Caffeinated Violence, because strength is the thing people in this market ask about first. The listing describes it as high caffeine content, and that is as specific as it gets. We searched the product page, the collection and the FAQ for a caffeine figure in milligrams and found none. That is not unusual for a small coffee brand, but it means the strength claim cannot be checked, and it cannot be compared with a coffee that publishes a lab result.

What We Like About Tactical Coffee

Price, first. At 6.49 pounds for 250g, Tactical Coffee is cheaper than most UK specialty roasters and cheaper than us: our standard 227g bags of Battle Prep, After Hours and Blue Light Coffee run from 9.95 to 10.95 pounds. If the cheapest decent bag of military themed ground coffee is what you are after, Tactical Coffee wins that line of the comparison and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Second, the commitments are real. Signing the Armed Forces Covenant, holding an Employer Recognition Scheme award, donating a pound a sale to Veterans in Action and giving coffee to vulnerable veterans are the actions of a business that means what its branding says. Third, the blue light range. Three Thin Line blends for police, ambulance and fire is a smart and sincere way to serve the emergency services, and it is a market we care about too, which is why we roast Blue Light Coffee. Fourth, the founder did a coffee course before launching, which sounds like a small thing until you have tasted the coffee from brands that skipped it.

Where Tactical Coffee Falls Short

The first gap is measured strength. Military coffee customers buy strength, and the brands that are genuinely strong prove it in milligrams. Contact's Red On is lab tested at 1,293mg of caffeine per 12 fl oz brewed and sits third on Caffeine Informer's ranking of the strongest coffee brands in the world, behind only Black Label and Very Strong Coffee. Tactical Coffee's Caffeinated Violence may well be strong, but with no published figure there is no way for a customer to know, and "high caffeine" on a label is a description, not a measurement.

The second gap is format. Tactical Coffee sells ground coffee and beans, and that is the range. Contact sells the same ground coffee and beans and then keeps going: coffee brew bags for the field, Nespresso compatible aluminium pods, Red On Americano cans, Red On caffeine pouches with 200mg of caffeine and 50mg of beta alanine per pouch for training, the Coffee Resupply ammo tin bundle, and the Contact Coffee Club subscription. If you want coffee in a form that works on exercise, on shift, in a wagon or in a gym bag, one of these brands has built it and the other has not.

The third gap is roasting. Contact roasts at its own UK roastery. Tactical Coffee's coffee is roasted by a partner. Neither approach makes a coffee taste better on its own, but owning the roast is what lets a brand control freshness, roast profile and consistency directly, and it is the difference between a coffee brand and a coffee roaster.

The fourth gap is reach and proof. We could not find a customer review count on the Tactical Coffee pages we checked, although the site does run a reviews blog. Contact's coffee has been reviewed by more than 2,000 customers on Loox (2,044 reviews as of 31 August 2026) and the company is reviewed on Trustpilot. For the week of 16 to 22 July 2026, TikTok Shop's own best seller rankings placed the Coffee Resupply ammo tin at #1 in Coffee, #3 in Drink and #4 across the entire Food and Beverage category on TikTok Shop UK, and by 27 July the listing showed 1,000 sold with a 4.9 rating from 110 ratings. That is what a military coffee brand at scale looks like, and it is measured by a third party rather than claimed.

Tactical Coffee vs Contact Coffee: Head to Head

Read the table honestly and the shape of the choice is clear. Tactical Coffee wins on price per bag and matches Contact on the sincerity of its forces credentials. Contact wins on measured strength, on the number of ways you can drink it, on roasting in house, on reviews and on independent proof of scale. Which of those matters depends on what you want from a military coffee, so here is our verdict on both.

Who Should Buy Tactical Coffee, and Who Should Buy Contact

Buy Tactical Coffee if price per bag is the deciding factor, if you want a blue light blend named for your service, or if the pound a sale to Veterans in Action is the reason you are buying a military coffee at all. It is a genuine veteran owned brand and a fair one to support.

Buy Contact Coffee if you want the strongest coffee in the category with a lab result behind the number, if you want the coffee in a format beyond a bag of ground, if you want a subscription that keeps the cupboard stocked, or if you want the Coffee Resupply ammo tin, which is the bundle that took TikTok Shop UK's coffee category and the one people keep asking about.
